Esther Stonis

Esther Stonis is the first voice you hear when you call Black Law P.A., which means she is, quite literally, the entire firm's first impression — a job she has been quietly acing while the rest of us take the credit. Clients call in tense and hang up calmer. Opposing counsel call in spoiling for a fight and somehow end up exchanging pleasantries about the weather. We're not saying she's won cases before the attorneys ever pick up the phone, but we're not not saying that either.

With more than 20 years as a legal assistant, Esther has seen every filing deadline, every panicked partner, and every "I need this yesterday" the profession can produce, and she handles all of it with the unbothered calm of someone who has genuinely heard it all. Chicago made her, which explains both the warmth and the complete inability to be intimidated by anyone, ever. She is funny in the dry, perfectly-timed way that sneaks up on you, and she will land a one-liner so good you'll forget why you were stressed in the first place.

Off the clock, Esther is a deeply proud grandma (ask her about the grandkid only if you have enough time), a recreational painter, and an unapologetic flamingo enthusiast — the bird, the color, the lawn ornament, the whole pink package. We've stopped asking how one person contains this much personality and simply count ourselves lucky to have her.
